Coburn's Domain 2.0

If you've read my twitter (@coburn64) lately, you'll notice that I've tweeted that we're getting new servers.

I'm in the process of ordering them. They will be low-power units and run CoburnOS Embedded Edition, which is a server version of CoburnOS (currently in the pipeline). These servers will run our IRC Network (expect a public beta soon, it's almost done) and pump out the Coburn's Domain website.

Database maintenance will also be carried out, and any threads that are older than 3 months (since last post) will be moved to a new "Old Threads" forum that will hold all the old threads. You can still reply to them in there, though.

As for the current server, we are hosted on BounceWeb, and we'll continue to use our BounceWeb hosting for various things like CoburnTV, CoburnBlog, the Coburn's Domain Wiki and other projects where bandwidth is critical, and my internet connection will not suffice.

This server move will take about a day of downtime, possibly longer if any issues arise, and I will send emails to all members alerting what's happening.

As 2010 is progressing, Coburn's Domain 3 is in the not-too-faraway horizon.

Coburn's Domain 3, or CD3 for short, will feature a totally new look infused with the Coburn User Interface (CoburnUI for short), hotswappable themes (see Weremuffin's theme layout for an example), and numerous other features.

While Coburn's Domain may be growing, it does come with a cost - Hosting Fees and other Coburn's Domain expenses. This factor does limit Coburn's Domain in a way, it can't expand if we don't have funds.

To cut costs, I'll be moving Coburn's Domain over to my personal Web Server sometime later. More info on that later.

I've readded the Donations box, where you can see the current amount donated, the goal, and a percentage. Kudos to Mariofan0 for donating the initial $20.

Please, if you have a few spare dollars lying around, please consider donating to us. Even if it's a 1 British Pound or 2 US Dollars, it's all welcome.

Donations are used on Coburn's Domain related expenses and hosting fees. You'll get CoburnCredits in exchange, which can be used in CD3. The ratio is $1 = 100 CoburnCredits (eg. $10 = 1000 CoburnCredits). Donators don't have to redonate once they have donated, only if they wish to. Donations don't get spent on personal expenses, apart from the odd beer.

For the record, Coburn's Domain is not going to be a paysite (aka pay-to-view site), this is just a message to say that donations are welcome, and they support Coburn's Domain for the years to come.

If we can reach that goal before the end of the year, I'll be sure to add a few bonuses in CD3.

Alright, we've got some spam-like members registering lately and I've been busy in Mission Control banning them.

This is possibly a sign of a possible attack, however I'm sure we'll survive any such activity.

EDIT: There is a bug that steals your credits when you make a new thread. I am working on a patch for that issue. Bug patched - If you lost credits, please PM me and I'll reissue you them. Sorry.

We had to remove the snow as Xmas is nearly over and it caused some people's computers to lag.

Also, Coburn's Domain is getting a new mascot - she'll make an appearance sometime soon. Rosalina will still be around as the Coburn's Domain assistant, however.

The CoburnBlog Blogging Platform is running on my private test server, however it is still in Alpha stage and I don't want to release a half-cooked blog system. I'm working as hard as I can on it to make it unique.
